Even seemingly healthy foods, if consumed excessively, can disrupt kidney function. In addition, in the presence of renal pathologies, products with a high content of oxalates should be excluded. Artur Bogatyrev, a urologist and andrologist at the SM Clinic Center for Reproductive Health, told Izvestia about this.

The specialist explained that the kidneys perform an excretory function in the body, removing excess fluid and dissolved substances from the blood. Therefore, nutrition has a direct impact on their health.

The doctor noted that in the presence of renal pathologies, foods with a high content of oxalates should be excluded. These include spinach, nuts, French fries, chips, sorrel, beetroot, bran, and chocolate. Andorlog also recommends limiting avocado consumption due to its high potassium content.

"Potassium is certainly necessary for the body: it supports water balance, acid-base balance and normal heart function. However, an overabundance of it can lead to hyperkalemia, which is manifested by a slowing of the pulse, nausea and a feeling of weakness," Bogatyrev explained.

In addition, the doctor does not recommend abusing drinks containing alkaloids: coffee, strong tea, cola and others. If consumed regularly, they can contribute to the formation of kidney stones. Optimally, no more than one or two cups of coffee per day.

Dairy products, despite their benefits as a source of calcium, are also on the list of potentially dangerous products. Excess dairy products, according to the expert, increases the calcium content in the urine, which increases the risk of developing urolithiasis.

Bogatyrev warned against excessive consumption of butter, rich in saturated fats and cholesterol. He clarified: this increases the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases, which negatively affects kidney function.

According to the urologist, a separate danger is an excess of salt in the diet. Sodium is trapped in the body, disrupting the water-salt balance and creating additional stress on the kidneys.

"You also need to be careful with products rich in purines, such as meat and liver. These compounds stimulate the formation of uric acid, which causes the kidneys to work with overload. In addition, excess protein of animal origin can cause the formation of kidney stones. And the accumulation of uric acid in the joints contributes to the development of arthritis," the urologist summed up.

Earlier, on March 28, Elena Ustinova, a general practitioner and nutritionist at the SM Clinic, told Izvestia about the dangerous consequences for the body when there is a lack of water. In particular, she warned that lack of water in the body can lead to blood clots, which, as a result, increases the likelihood of developing thrombosis, especially in adulthood. In addition, lack of fluid negatively affects the functioning of the brain, since its nutrition depends on capillary circulation.
