Trucks without cabins and drivers appeared in Nizhny Novgorod
On the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod Automobile Plant (formerly GAZ), unmanned cargo platforms began to be used in a test mode, in particular, for transporting cabins between the workshops of the enterprise. This is reported by Quto.ru April 9th. It is assumed that in the future NEOS will be used in airports, cargo warehouses and ports.
Previously, the platform called NEOS was tested on autopolygon roads and trained to drive autonomously along a given route, now it performs in-house tasks. Its load capacity is 800-1000 kg. The power reserve reaches 120 km, and the maximum speed is 20 km/h.
The company uses the platform at speeds of about 4 km/h. The software for NEOS was developed by Nizhny Novgorod specialists. The system allows the platform to recognize obstacles and avoid them. For safety reasons, the markings and signs have been updated on the territory of the plant.
Due to the rotation of both axes, the turning radius is 3.5 m. The front suspension modules from the all-wheel drive "Sable NN" are used as the chassis. The components of the traction electric drive were borrowed from Gazelle e-NN.
Earlier in the day, trucks began moving in a completely unmanned mode on the Central Ring Road (CKAD) in the Moscow region. Its launch was given by the first deputy head of the Ministry of Transport, Valentin Ivanov.
Also on April 9, KAMAZ announced new models of K5 generation trucks with improved technical characteristics and consumer properties. They will be introduced in 2025.
