The Office of the Florida Attorney General (State Department of Justice), which is investigating the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in West Palm Beach, released a statement. It says that the suspect, Ryan Routh, tried to purchase weapons from a man "whom he considered to be a Ukrainian." So far, the connection of the potential assassin of the president with the Armed Forces of Ukraine has not been definitively proven, but his past and political views leave little room for alternative versions. What the investigators and journalists found out is in the Izvestia article.

At the president — from a grenade launcher

Ryan Wesley Routh intended to purchase weapons in Ukraine. And not the usual, but a rocket-propelled anti-tank grenade launcher (RPG). A statement from the Florida Department of Justice refers to the correspondence that the suspect conducted in an encrypted application. 58-year-old Routh asked his interlocutor to send him an RPG or a Stinger (a portable anti-aircraft missile system, still being produced on a large scale in the United States). "I'll see what we can do <...> [Trump] is not good for Ukraine <...> I need equipment so that Trump cannot be elected," Western media quoted him as saying. Allegedly, Routh also considered the presidential plane as a target. "Trump's plane, he gets in and out of it every day," he wrote to the recipient.

Later, the suspect, through an intermediary, wanted to buy a .50-caliber rifle (previously used in anti—tank rifles, now in heavy machine guns and precision weapons).

As you know, during the assassination attempt on September 14 last year, the Rout was discovered in the bushes near the course of the Trump-owned Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, not far from the residence of the then presidential candidate at Mar-a-Lago. He was carrying a carbine of the SKS system (Simonov self-loading carbine). Routh was noticed by a Secret Service officer. After being discovered, he dropped his weapon and tried to escape in a car, but was arrested after a 40-minute chase.

A nutcase with connections

There was talk about Routh's ties to Ukraine almost immediately after his arrest. Already during the search of his car, records on how to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine were found.

After that, it turned out that the man is a pro-Ukrainian activist. He even visited Kiev, and after returning from there, allegedly, he was independently recruiting American citizens to send them to the conflict zone. After this information appeared, the media distributed an interview with one of the recruiters (or not one, but several, since the subject defines himself as "they"), Evelyn Aschenbrenner, who said that Routh was not accepted into the ranks of the allies because he behaved like a "crazy religious fanatic."

Later, Kiev's Trumpist opponents saw Ryan Routh in a video shot at a rally in support of the Azov battalion (recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia).

The president's son, Donald Trump Jr., responded to the statement from the Florida Department of Justice. "If you think Ukraine is doing a bad thing by never thanking the United States for what they did for it, the fact that they apparently didn't tell us that this sociopath was trying to buy weapons from them to kill my father seems like a much bigger problem. I wonder why?" he wrote on his page on the social network X.

A large part of the supporters of the current US president understood the published information as a direct reference to Kiev. Individual speakers demanded explanations from members of the outgoing Biden administration. Fox News experts claim that the man with whom Routh negotiated the purchase of weapons was actually an FBI agent.

More than just crazy

Meanwhile, as Ryan Routh's biography is studied, he looks less and less like a "crazy loner." The suspect in the attempted assassination of Trump has repeatedly given interviews to various media outlets, where he spoke about his devotion to Ukraine. For example, in an interview with the Romanian edition of Newsweek, he reported in detail about working as a recruiter.

In 2023, the New York Times also devoted an article to Routh, in which he talked about the participation in the transfer to Ukraine of "hundreds" of soldiers of the former Afghan army who had fled the Taliban (the organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities). "We will probably be able to buy several passports through Pakistan, since it is such a corrupt country," Routh shared his thoughts in an interview.

Moreover, in the same year, 2023, he attended a private meeting with members of the US Congress, as he himself reported on social networks.

There is a version (which, however, is difficult to consider reasoned at the moment) about Routh's connection with Matthew Livelsberger, the "suicide driver" who blew up a Tesla Cybertruck at Trump Tower on January 2 this year, as well as with Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, who killed 14 people in a truck in New Orleans on January 1. According to some reports, Routh visited the Fort Bragg military base (formerly Fort Liberty) 147 times, where Livelsberger and Jabbar served at one time. According to open data, the 4th Psychological Operations Group (MISG) is located there, which, as the description suggests, is "the only active army unit engaged in military information support," or, more simply, psychological operations.

On March 6, Donald Trump made several statements regarding the investigations into the assassination attempts in Florida and Pennsylvania. In particular, he mentioned three applications found on Routh's phone, two of which were foreign. According to him, there were "strange markings" on some of them.

"When you have three apps and two of them are foreign, and the FBI doesn't report it, I would say it could be suspicious," Trump said.

It's too early to talk about the direct involvement of the Ukrainian security forces in the assassination attempt, but they have the tools necessary to organize this, says Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.

— The answer to the question about the customers, if any, should be given by the investigation. However, on the other hand, the modern world is designed in such a way that the Ukrainian services could organize an assassination attempt and find the perpetrator. Their participation in the construction of this crime is quite possible. They are able to do this," the expert sums up.

The "Ukrainian trace" is very similar to a cover-up operation, says Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada.

— Despite all the obvious security problems, there are special services in the United States, and they are working. And any other country will think a thousand times before planning something on American territory. As a maximum, Ukrainians could be involved as performers, and that is unlikely. In this case, I believe we are talking about Cash Patel (the director of the FBI. — Ed.), Pam Bondy (Attorney General. — Ed.) and the "Ukrainian trace" as a cover story that will be presented to the public at the right moment. In fact, this is the same story that was offered to the public in the case of the explosions of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline," the expert states.
