The economist pointed out the benefits for Russia in the US-China trade war

Of all the leading economies in the world, Russia is the most protected from the US-China trade war. The domestic market can benefit from this situation. Maxim Chirkov, an economist, associate professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at the Institute of Economics and Finance of the State University of Management (GUU), shared this opinion with Izvestia on April 9.
"We can get a number of advantages as a result of this exchange of duties, the Russian market will become attractive for goods from different countries," the expert noted.
He explained that global markets, including domestic ones, are reacting to the US-China trade war by declining, but Moscow remains on the sidelines.
"Russia has a chance to overcome these difficulties much easier than the world's leading economies," Chirkov said.
According to him, such a war of duties cannot have a long-term character, as it will bring great harm to the economies of the United States and China.
"The current situation can already lead to serious economic consequences, in particular, to a serious decline in world trade. Theoretically, there may be an even greater increase in duties, but duties of this size will not be able to work for a long time," the economist concluded.
Earlier in the day, China announced an increase in tariffs on imported goods from the United States from 34% to 84%. The measure will come into force on April 10. The day before, Washington announced duties against Beijing of 104%.
