About half of the assets of Russian citizens and companies frozen abroad had been unblocked by the beginning of this year. This was stated by the head of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, speaking in the State Duma on April 9.

"Taking into account all the measures taken, by the beginning of this year, about half of the assets of Russian citizens and companies that were blocked in 2022 had been unblocked," she said.

Nabiullina added that the Central Bank, together with the Ministry of Finance and the government, are taking all necessary measures to unblock the foreign assets of Russian investors in full.

Earlier, on April 5, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhna said that Europe would probably have to return €240 billion of frozen assets to Russia if Hungary prevented the extension of anti-Russian sanctions.

Prior to that, on April 1, Reuters reported that the value of Russian assets frozen in Switzerland due to economic sanctions against Moscow had increased to 7.4 billion Swiss francs ($8.38 billion). A year ago, the cost was 5.8 billion francs. According to the government statement, the increase was due to the identification and blocking of additional funds.
