Hungary called for negotiations with the United States on trade duties

Budapest believes that Europe should come to the negotiating table with the United States on the issue of trade duties. This was announced on April 9 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"Brussels wants to make the situation worse by focusing not on negotiations with the United States, but on retaliatory measures and the imposition of duties. We believe that the only way out of this situation is through negotiations, and that only through negotiations can we achieve a reduction in duties and an improvement in the situation," Szijjarto said.
According to the Hungarian politician, the introduction of retaliatory duties will cause even greater damage to the European economy and residents of the bloc, as such a step will only spur price increases.
"Hungary will not vote today [April 9] in Brussels for the proposal that the European Union, in turn, impose duties against the United States," Szijjarto said.
On April 2, US President Donald Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
