The State Duma commented on Trump's statements about tariff policy

The tariff policy of US President Donald Trump is one of the latest efforts to reverse the trend and continue the country's struggle for the title of the world's first economy. This opinion was expressed by State Duma Deputy Artyom Kiryanov on Wednesday, April 9.
Commenting on the statements of the American leader that countries are ready to "kiss his ass" for the sake of a deal, the parliamentarian noted the relative inability of the United States to quickly rebuild. The deputy explained that factories located in Vietnam, China, Southeast Asia and other countries are unlikely to return to their home harbor, as the Trump administration wants.
"As for Russia, the US tariff policy does not pose a threat to us in the face of severe sanctions pressure. We continue to move in the direction of cooperation with our partners, which has already developed," Kiryanov said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The MP added that the conflict involving the United States in Ukraine has defined new formats of interaction between countries that do not belong to the collective West.
In these circumstances, Russia needs to use the moments that will appear in the tariff war in order to strengthen its own position in foreign markets, the parliamentarian concluded.
Earlier, Trump said that because of US duties, countries are "kissing his ass" for the sake of new trade deals, RT reports.
According to him, the states in respect of which duties have been imposed are "dying" from the desire to conclude a trade deal with the United States, reports NSN.
On April 2, Trump announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. Later, the United States raised duties against China to 104%.
On April 8, Trump announced that the US duties imposed bring about $2 billion in profit to the state treasury. In addition, Trump added that more than 70 countries have expressed their willingness to negotiate with the United States on the issue of imposed duties.
