The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sentenced Georgy Goglidze, a 27-year-old Georgian citizen, to nine years in a penal colony. This was announced on April 9 by the regional prosecutor's office.
It is clarified that Goglidze is charged under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict").
According to the agency, the person involved arrived in the village of Starichi, Lviv region, in April 2023. He completed military training with instructors from the USA, France, Germany and Poland and signed a contract. Then the mercenary ended up in the occupied Slavyansk of the DPR and participated in battles against Russian troops, receiving weapons, ammunition and equipment. His remuneration amounted to more than 766 thousand rubles.
"In November 2023, Goglidze was captured by soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces on the line of combat contact in the area of the Serebryansk forestry in the territory of the Lugansk People's Republic," the agency's website says.
A court has sentenced a Georgian mercenary to nine years in prison. He will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.
On April 7, the DPR court sentenced a mercenary from Georgia to 14 years in a high-security penal colony in absentia. It is specified that he took part in military operations on the territory of the DPR against the Russian army.
