The right-wing German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which took second place in the early German parliamentary elections, topped the popularity rating of the country's parties for the first time. This was reported on April 9 by the Reuters news agency, citing the results of an Ipsos survey.

According to Ipsos, the level of support for the AFD reached 25%, while support for the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc that won the election fell to 24%.

At the same time, it is clarified that the level of support for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) remained at 15%, which is the worst indicator in recent years.

The Bild newspaper, citing data from the INSA institute, reported on April 5 that the AfD had reached the level of popularity of the CDU/CSU faction. According to the survey results, the CDU/CSU's rating dropped to 24% in a week.

AFD party secretary Bernd Baumann said on March 13 that CDU leader Friedrich Merz could become Chancellor of Germany for a very short time, as German voters would not forgive him for deception and fraud.
