- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced a demarche to the Charge d'affaires of Estonia in Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation held a demarche to the Charge d'affaires of Estonia in Russia, Jana Vanamelder, in connection with the desecration of military graves at the Tallinn Military Cemetery. This was announced on April 9 by the press service of the department.
"Jana Vanamelder stated that Russia strongly condemns the malicious actions of Tallinn aimed at desecrating memorials at the graves of Soviet servicemen, including those who gave their lives for the liberation of Europe from Nazi enslavement," the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
It is noted that in March, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry had already declared the inadmissibility of desecrating the tombstones of Soviet servicemen, but Tallinn not only did not draw the necessary conclusions, but also cynically continued to lead the situation to further deterioration. Such actions are especially blasphemous in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, the message emphasizes.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that it would continue to highlight the actions of the Baltic countries to destroy the Soviet memorial heritage and draw the attention of the United Nations to this.
On April 2, it became known that the staff of the Estonian Military Museum destroyed monuments at the Tallinn Military Cemetery in honor of Soviet sailors, soldiers and officers who liberated the republic from the Nazi invaders.
Earlier, on March 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the rewriting of history by the Baltic States, Poland and a number of other EU countries must be dealt with very harshly. He noted that in these countries, the criminals convicted by the Nuremberg Tribunal are being equalized with those who liberated Europe from fascism.
