Viruses most often enter devices when installing applications from unofficial sources. Infection can also occur through operating system vulnerabilities, phishing links, and unsecured Wi-Fi or Bluetooth networks. Igor Bederov, director of the Internet search company, told Izvestia about this on April 10.

According to him, the main symptoms of infection can be seen from the operation of the device. A phone with viruses runs out faster, runs slower, and its Internet traffic is growing. In addition, pop-up ads and redirects to other sites are more common. However, unknown applications and functions may appear on the device.

"Malware is also characterized by incomprehensible calls and messages, overheating of the gadget, blocking the device with a ransom demand, and various failures in the operation of installed applications," the specialist added.

To protect your smartphone, Bederov recommends installing applications only from official stores, regularly updating the operating system and programs, using reliable antivirus software, carefully checking the permissions requested by applications, and not clicking on links in suspicious messages.

The expert paid special attention to security in public Wi-Fi networks. He recommended using a VPN when connecting to open networks to protect your data from interception.

"Do not follow the links in suspicious SMS, emails or messages. Check the website addresses manually, especially if we are talking about banks or payments. Set up automatic backups to the cloud. Turn off unused Bluetooth and NFC," suggested Bederov.

The specialist also recommended enabling two-factor authentication for important accounts. He clarified that it is better to protect the device with a password, a graphic key or biometrics, and use password managers to store passwords.

"Keep an eye on smartphone activity and avoid apps with low popularity or a suspicious description," the expert concluded.

Earlier, on April 9, RED Security told Izvestia about the industries most susceptible to DDoS attacks. According to their data, in 2024, the service sector steadily rose in the ranking, with a quarterly increase in the number of attacks of about 35%. However, the dynamics accelerated dramatically in early 2025.: Malicious activity increased by 80% compared to the previous quarter.
