- Zakharova stated Russia's concern about the tariff war between the United States and China

The tariff war between the United States and China is alarming, and Russia will take measures to minimize the damage. This was announced on April 9 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
She stressed that Washington does not consider itself obligated to comply with international trade norms. In addition, according to the diplomat, the tariff barriers imposed by the United States are being used to pressure trading partners to accept American conditions.
"In connection with the so—called tariff war between the United States and China, we would like to note that <...> the situation is of serious concern when it comes to the two main economies of the world, one of which is our long—term largest foreign trade partner," the diplomat noted.
Zakharova said that Russia is closely monitoring the development of the situation, will carefully analyze the possible consequences and take measures to minimize potential damage to the country.
On April 2, US President Donald Trump announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again. On April 4, China imposed duties of 34% against the United States.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on April 7 that the US abuse of duties is economic bullying, damaging not only other countries, but also Washington itself.
On April 8, the US authorities increased import duties on goods from China to 104% due to China's refusal to lift retaliatory measures.
