Over the past day, 192 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 14 people were killed and 241 injured. Among the dead, 12 were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 9 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 64 accidents involving pedestrians, two people were killed, and 63 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 15 child pedestrians, seven of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 22 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 42 outside their area of operation.

There were 10 accidents involving buses, in which there were no fatalities, but 11 road users needed medical attention. One of them is a minor. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers. In three cases, the cause of the emergency was caused by other road users.

27 accidents involving minors under the age of 16 were registered, in which 29 young road users were injured, including 10 passengers and three cyclists. One child passenger was killed.

So, in the Rostov region, at night on a regional highway, a 40-year-old passenger car driver from Volgograd fell asleep at the wheel and drove off the road, followed by a rollover of the car. The accident killed the motorist's 10-year-old son, who was in the back seat without using a seat belt. The driver's wife and second son (born in 2011) were hospitalized with injuries. The injured teenager was also in the back seat at the time of the accident, but unlike his dead brother, he was wearing a seat belt.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to transport children in strict accordance with current safety regulations. The life and health of young passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior of a motorist on the road.

"If you have a long trip ahead of you, then when you go on the road, get behind the wheel only well rested and without the slightest signs of indisposition. If the driver feels sleepy on the way, he should stop as soon as possible at the nearest equipped parking lot, near a stationary traffic police post or in a populated area to rest for a few hours in the car or in a hotel before resuming the trip. Do not unnecessarily risk your own life and the lives of your passengers," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

The ministry urged not to exceed the permitted speed limit, abandon risky driving, overtaking, driving into the oncoming lane and other dangerous maneuvers.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that 24,000 road accidents occurred in Russia in the first three months of 2025, an increase of 1.9% compared to the same period last year. As a result of these accidents, 2.6 thousand people died (-0.8%), 30.6 thousand were injured (+1.4%).
