The number of road accidents in Russia increased in early 2025

In the first three months of 2025, 24 thousand road accidents occurred in Russia, which is 1.9% more than in the same period last year. As a result of these accidents, 2.6 thousand people died (-0.8%), 30.6 thousand were injured (+1.4%). This was reported by Kommersant on April 9, citing data from the State Traffic Inspectorate.

Immediately, 20% of all road accidents occur in five regions: Moscow, Krasnodar Territory, Nizhny Novgorod Region, St. Petersburg and the Moscow Region. Most of the deaths were registered in the Krasnodar Territory, Moscow, Rostov and Nizhny Novgorod regions, as well as in Bashkortostan.

It is noted that the dynamics of accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles is growing faster than the overall accident rate. Thus, accidents involving injured cyclists have increased by 51% since the beginning of the year, involving motorcycles — by 71.6%, mopeds and equivalent vehicles — by 111.7%. No accidents involving personal mobility equipment (IMS) were recorded in the first three months of 2025.
