The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the French Ambassador because of the detention of an employee of the ministry

The French ambassador in Moscow was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with the detention of an employee of the Russian ministry by the French border service. This was announced on April 9 by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.

The diplomat clarified that a computer and phone were seized from an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and an employee of the Russian consulate sent to the airport waited almost seven hours for access to a colleague.

"The Russian Embassy in Paris has sent a protest note to the French Foreign Ministry. During the conversation, the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly protested to the leadership of the French Embassy in Moscow," she said at a briefing.

According to Zakharova, after the demarche expressed, an employee of the ministry was nevertheless allowed to enter the country, but she had to spend a day in the border area of the airport. She stressed that Russia is not going to stand idly by in this situation.

Zakharova also noted that summoning the ambassador and sending a note of protest are not final measures, and Paris should understand this.

On February 6, Izvestia correspondent Nikolai Ivanov and cameraman Georgy Bekauri were denied visas to film a report on the French resistance on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The document stated that "one or more EU states" consider that they pose a "threat to public order or internal security."

Commenting on this, Zakharova stated that Paris is harassing employees of the Russian press. In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called it discrimination of the Russian media by Paris.
