ERA-GLONASS has started online monitoring of unmanned trucks on the M-11 highway

The ERA-GLONASS state-owned system has started tracking the movement of unmanned trucks on the M-11 Neva highway in real time. This was reported to Izvestia on April 9 by the company's press service.

The largest fleet of autonomous trucks, 43 Navio vehicles, was the first to connect to the system. In the future, more than 20 vehicles from other participants of the federal program "Unmanned Logistics Corridors" will join the project. Similar monitoring will be launched on the TSKAD and M-12 Vostok highways.

It is specified that the new system allows the Ministry of Transport and the project participants to obtain statistics on the operation of autonomous vehicles. It is planned to work out the centralized transfer of commands to truck operators and test protection against cyber attacks.

"With the help of ERA-GLONASS, we will get a tool for managing and coordinating the further scaling of highly automated vehicles. Statistics on mileage, operating modes and incidents in real time will allow you to see the big picture and make decisions based on objective data from the state operator," said Deputy Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin.

According to him, for traffic safety, the function of transmitting general commands to all operators is necessary in order to get autonomous trucks off the highway in time if an accident occurs ahead or restrictions are imposed due to adverse weather conditions.

Alexey Raikevich, General Director of GLONASS JSC, added that a cybersecurity platform will be tested on drones as part of the project. The system will allow you to identify and prevent cyber threats in advance.

Earlier, on September 23, 2024, it was reported that the movement of trucks was completely unmanned along the M-11 Neva highway between Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is specified that trucks have been running in unmanned mode since the summer of 2022, but until that moment the driver had to be behind the wheel at the points of entry into the city.
