More than 50 natural and man-made fires were eliminated in Transbaikalia in a day, 43 forest fires are being extinguished in the conditions of a gale wind. This was announced on April 9 by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

"The gale-force winds in the region contributed to the rapid development of the fire. 36 man—made fires and 20 landscape fires were extinguished during the day," the department's Telegram channel says.

At the moment, employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have been able to protect seven settlements and two peasant farms from the spread of fire.

The ministry said that more than 900 people and 170 pieces of equipment are involved in extinguishing natural and man-made fires.

The Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Alexander Osipov, said on April 7 that a regional emergency regime had been introduced in the region in connection with forest fires. He stressed that the situation remains tense, and called for the protection of the region's forests.
