The Chinese embassy called the US duties an act of unilateral intimidation.

The tariffs imposed by American leader Donald Trump on goods from China are a unilateral act of intimidation, and Washington should abandon its practice of threats and blackmail. This was announced on April 9 by the official representative of the Chinese Embassy, Liu Pengyu.
"China calls on the United States to immediately correct its mistakes, lift all unilateral tariff measures against China, end economic and trade suppression, and resolve differences with China properly through equal dialogue based on mutual respect,— he told RIA Novosti.
Thus, Pengyu commented on the statement of the White House administration about the "generosity" of the American leader in the event of negotiations between China and the United States.
He added that none of the sides will be able to emerge victorious from the trade war, but at the same time, if Beijing is in danger of "trouble," he "will not flinch."
"Intimidation, threats and blackmail are the wrong way to interact with China. China will take the necessary measures to reliably protect its legitimate rights and interests," said the official representative of the Chinese Embassy.
According to him, the American side is abusing tariffs, which, in turn, can disrupt stability in the global economic system. He added that the United States needs to cancel all those duties that they imposed on China.
"If the United States decides not to take care of the interests of the United States, China and the rest of the world and is determined to wage a tariff and trade war, China's response will continue to the end," Pengyu stressed.
On April 8, Trump said he was confident in China's desire to conclude a trade deal with the United States. He noted that at the moment, the United States is charging 104% duties on Chinese products and will continue to do so until Beijing is ready to conclude a trade deal with the American side.
At the same time, the American leader said that the imposed US duties bring about $2 billion in profit to the state treasury. In addition, Trump added that more than 70 countries have expressed their willingness to negotiate with the United States on the issue of imposed duties.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on April 7 that the US abuse of duties is economic bullying that harms not only other countries, but also Washington itself.
