Overchuk says Afghans have a positive attitude towards Russian Federation

Afghanistan has many problems, but it has potential, and Russia is welcome there. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk told Izvestia.
"Afghanistan has a lot of problems, but there is potential and they are waiting for us there. We have had contacts with Afghans. They want to develop and live in peace. They have a positive attitude towards Russia and are very interested in developing economic ties. The Russian Prosecutor General's Office appealed to the Supreme Court with a proposal to suspend the ban on the activities of the Taliban (the organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities. - Ed.) in Russia. This is a legal process. If such a decision is taken, better opportunities for relations with this country will open up. In parallel, preparatory work for this interaction is underway," he said.
Peace is coming to Afghanistan today and opportunities are opening up that were not there before, he said. Among other things, this is related to the realization of transport and logistics potential.
"After the Taliban movement established control over the entire territory of the country, there was an opportunity for unimpeded automobile transit of goods. Today it is available. The construction of trans-Afghan railroads from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to Pakistan and further to India has been discussed for quite some time. Afghanistan has adopted the Russian 1520 gauge standard. This all coincides with our vision of the BEP. We will always be interested in new routes leading to new markets," he said.
