- Lavrov pointed to the West's constant attempts to forget history and denigrate the role of the USSR.

Russia has been trying for years to shake up the West in response to its attempts to forget history and denigrate the role of the Soviet Union, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on April 9.
"We've been trying to shake them up for years. Indeed, long before the special military operation, this tendency of consigning history to oblivion, attempts to put winners and losers on the same level, attempts to undermine and denigrate the role of the Soviet Union, they were undertaken quite intensively and for a long time," he told TASS.
Lavrov also spoke about his contacts with German diplomats over the past seven to eight years. According to him, they increasingly expressed the idea that Germany had paid off everyone and owed no one anything anymore. The minister called such statements "a very disturbing call."
On February 1, Russian Ambassador to Vienna Dmitry Lyubinsky said that Western attempts to rewrite the history of World War II were doomed to failure. According to him, it is now more important than ever before to honor the memory of the victims of the humanitarian disaster and to recall the heroic deed of the Soviet people.
On December 25, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that the victory over Nazism in 1945 should be promoted as a common value for all mankind. He noted that all CIS countries remember and honor the feat of all the peoples of the USSR.
