Railroad soldiers have begun practising combating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). To destroy drones, they use standard small arms, smoothbore weapons, artillery anti-aircraft guns, which are placed on special armored trains, and also use electronic warfare equipment. The classes are conducted by instructors who have gained combat experience in the military special operation zone. Sources in the Russian Defense Ministry told Izvestia.

Crews of special armored trains "Volga", "Amur", "Baikal" and "Yenisei" are being trained. For example, the arsenal of the latter has 82-millimeter mortars, BMP-2 with 30-millimeter cannon, large-caliber machine guns NSV "Utes", twin anti-aircraft guns ZU-23-2. At the same time, the design of trains allows to quickly increase anti-aircraft armament.

Railroads are one of the main transportation communications for Russian troops in the special operation zone, Colonel Alexander Perendzhiev, an associate professor at the Plekhanov Russian Economic University, told Izvestia.

"Now the troops on the line of contact and on alternate lines of defense, as well as the civilian population, especially in frontline areas where peaceful life has yet to be established, largely depend on their work. Huge volumes are being transported. Military equipment, fuel, foodstuffs and other important goods are delivered by rail. For example, construction materials, which are needed not only for the restoration of civilian facilities, but also for the construction of military facilities. Warriors have to protect the railroad infrastructure. Such facilities are hit by UAVs of various types. And, of course, it is necessary to be able to resist it," the expert believes.
