The United States will withdraw its military from a base in Poland that coordinates assistance to Ukraine as a step to optimize its military presence. This was announced on April 8 on the website of the American army in Europe and Africa.

The temporary presence of American troops in Yasenka was established in 2022 after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine.

"The decision to redeploy troops and equipment was the result of months of evaluation and planning, which were closely coordinated with the Polish hosts and NATO allies," the text says.

In turn, the commander of the US army in Europe and Africa, General Christopher Donahue, noted that from now on, the work on providing military assistance to Kiev through Yasenka will be carried out by the leadership of Poland and NATO.

According to Business Insider, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the withdrawal of US troops from the logistics hub at Rzeszow airport near the Polish-Ukrainian border to other bases in Poland was coordinated with NATO, such actions do not mean the withdrawal of United States troops from the country.

"I am familiar with the issue of assuming responsibility for the security of Rzeszów Airport and its security," he said.

The Polish leader also called this step part of a broader strategy to optimize Washington's military operations and improve support for allies and partners. According to the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh, published on the social network X (ex. Twitter), American troops remain in Poland. He also noted that, according to the decision taken at the NATO summit in Washington, the nature of this mission is changing.

Earlier, on March 13, the Financial Times newspaper reported that the Polish president called on the United States to deploy weapons on the territory of the republic. It was clarified that Duda discussed this issue with the special representative of the American president for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg.
