- The Institute of CIS Countries reported on the intense struggle against all Russian in Latvia

A "new wave of repression" against all Russians has begun in Latvia. Ruslan Pankratov, a researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries, told Izvestia about this on April 8.
"If we are in a cafe, and this is recognized as a public place, we speak Russian, and we both have Latvian passports <...>, then this will be a violation of public order," he said.
He also noted that books are banned in the country and television channels are closed. If law enforcement agencies hear a Russian voice coming from the TV, they can break into the house, issue a fine or bring criminal charges.
In 2022, Pankratov was arrested in Riga for publicly supporting a special military operation in Ukraine. During the interrogation, representatives of the security services accused the specialist of allegedly anti-state activities, justifying genocide, as well as other crimes. In the end, the expert escaped after being beaten and tortured.
"We are trying to negotiate with them. Unfortunately, these attempts are futile, they can't hear us. They really want to fight. This is <...> psychiatry, maybe," Pankratov noted.
Earlier, on April 7, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service reported that the Latvian authorities planned to begin mass destruction of memorials in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War in the country. The ministry noted that Riga was driven to such a decision by cave Russophobia and fear of the Russian Federation.
