Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Palutskas has spoken out against tougher sanctions against citizens of Russia and Belarus. This was announced by the ELTA news agency on April 8.

"No, I would not support [proposals to tighten restrictions], because the government made a decision that balanced the sanctions and their impact," he said.

As reported by "Gazeta.Ru", the prime minister noted that there are many Belarusians and Russians in Lithuania who have come and work in the territory of the state. Palutskas noted that "to see a spy in every visitor is inadequate."

"I think it's not rational to paint everyone under one picture at once," he stressed.

According to ELTA, in the afternoon, the Lithuanian Seimas approved a proposal to extend national sanctions against citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus. It is specified that the current restrictive measures expire on May 2, 2025. The Seimas proposed extending the sanctions for another year.

Earlier in the day, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that Europe's sanctions policy against Russia had failed completely. He noted that the anti-Russian restrictions had hit the EU countries themselves instead of the Russian Federation.
