Leonid Makhkamov, a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, died at the age of 81. This was announced on Tuesday, April 8, by the press service of the union.
It is specified that Makhkamov passed away the day before, on April 7.
Sergei Rusakov, Chairman of the Moscow Regional organization of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, LLC, recalled his collaboration with Makhkamov on a biopic documentary about the first president of the Republic of Abkhazia, Vladislav Ardzinba.
"I was lucky enough to work with him, he invited me to become the director of this film; we spent a year collecting material, arguing, rejecting script options, approving new ones. He did not just compile facts about Ardzinba, but delved into every turn of his difficult fate, correlating it with the general situation in Russia, the Caucasus and the world," he is quoted as saying in the message.
The farewell to Makhkamov will take place on April 10 at the Khovansky funeral home.
Makhkamov was born on June 16, 1943. In 1965, he graduated from the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature of the T.G. Shevchenko Dushanbe Pedagogical Institute. He worked over the years as a teacher and a journalist. He was the screenwriter of such famous films as "Hostage", "The Lame Dervish", as well as the children's musical fairy tale "The Little Avenger".
