Russian heavy flame-throwing systems (CBT) are in demand and promising, Andrei Koshkin, head of the Department of Political Analysis and Socio-Psychological Processes at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, military expert, told Izvestia on April 8.

At the same time, he noted that Russian CBT is highly appreciated abroad.

"CBT is a system that in the West is called a Doomsday weapon. They are fighting in our country in their own format. There were heavy flamethrower systems in both Soviet and Russian times. They are designed to disable lightly armored vehicles and automotive equipment in general, to destroy buildings, structures, and to destroy manpower, above all," the expert explained.

Speaking about the technical characteristics, he clarified that this is a 46-ton combat vehicle with a 220 mm caliber. The minimum firing range is about 400 m. There are systems with a maximum range of 3.5 km, as well as up to 6 km and up to 15 km. The crew of the combat vehicle is three people. The maximum speed is 65 km per hour.

The development and improvement of the TOS-2 Tosochka continues.

"TOS-1A is the Sun, but TOS—2 Tosochka is a more advanced system. Naturally, the development continues today. And in the future, the maximum target range and the area of damage will increase," Koshkin added.

Earlier, on April 1, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Tosochka TOS-2 crew destroyed a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Red Army area of the special military operation zone. The servicemen struck the enemy positions with thermobaric shells.
