China initiates WTO dispute over US tariffs

China has asked the World Trade Organization (WTO) for advice on the introduction of new US trade duties. Information about this appeared on the organization's website on April 8.
"A request for consultations formally initiates a dispute in the WTO. The consultations provide the parties with an opportunity to discuss the issue and find a satisfactory solution without further legal proceedings," the statement said.
"The newspaper.Ru" clarifies that on April 8, the request was distributed to WTO members.
On April 7, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose additional duties on goods from China in the amount of 50% from April 9, if China does not abandon retaliatory measures to American tariffs. Thus, the American leader reacted to the retaliatory tariffs imposed by China in the amount of 34%.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on the same day that the US abuse of duties was economic bullying, harming not only other countries, but also Washington itself. According to him, this seriously infringes on the legitimate rights and interests of other states, as well as violates WTO rules.
