In the spring, Jews all over the world celebrate Passover. One of the most important Jewish holidays commemorates the exodus of the Jews from Egypt and is considered the birthday of the Jewish people. It is often also called the Jewish Passover. In 2025, Passover will begin at sunset on April 12 and end on the evening of April 19. Especially for the celebration, Izvestia has prepared beautiful greetings in Russian and Hebrew, which can be shared on the holiday.

Happy Passover in 2025: greetings in prose in Russian

Passover belongs to one of the most ancient holidays. The order of its celebration is defined in the holy Book of the Jews, the Torah. It means not only gaining freedom after centuries of Egyptian captivity, but also serves as a reminder that Jews all over the world are one people. In addition, it is a spring festival, symbolizing renewal and the beginning of a new life.

Every year, the Jewish Passover is celebrated on the 14th of the Jewish month of Nisan, corresponding to the first month of the biblical year. According to legend, it was in this month that the exodus of Jews from Egypt took place. In Israel, the celebrations last a week, while outside the country they last for eight days.

Passover is also widely celebrated in Russia, which ranks seventh in the world in terms of the number of Jews. Christians and representatives of other faiths can also join in the congratulations and send warm wishes to their fellow countrymen.

Here are examples of what you can wish for on Passover in Russian in your own words:

"Congratulations on the Passover holiday, which is important for all Jews! I sincerely wish you peace, prosperity, family well-being and joy. May the people dear to your heart gather for a delicious and satisfying seder today, and all adversities will bypass your home. Happy Passover!"

"Happy great Passover! May this spring holiday bring joyful changes to your life, become a time of renewal and great achievements. May God keep in your heart the feeling of freedom, faith in miracles and protect you from all troubles. Joy and happiness!"

"Congratulations on the holiday! May the bright and joyful Passover fill your soul with happiness and your heart with hope. I wish you peace, kindness, good health and prosperity. Let the guiding star guide you through life, not letting you stumble, and reliable friends will become a support and protection!"

"The main Jewish holiday of Passover has arrived, on which I would like to sincerely congratulate you. On this important day for every Jew, let me wish you daily joy, harmony, peace and complete mutual understanding in your family. Live with joy in your soul and be happy!"

Happy Passover: what to say and what to respond to the Jewish Passover

Traditionally, on Passover, Jews congratulate each other with the words: "Hag Pesach sameach!" ("Happy Passover!"). You can also use the universal greeting "Hag sameah" in Hebrew or "Gut Yom Tov" in Yiddish. Both greetings mean "Happy Holiday" and can be used for any Jewish celebration.

You should respond to these words in the same way. But there are other phrases that can be used to congratulate you on the Jewish Passover. For example, you can wish "Hag Pesach kosher ve sameach!" ("Joyful and kosher Passover!") or "Ihulim hamim le Pesach" ("Warm wishes for Passover!").

Since Passover is also a spring holiday, you can also say "Hag aviv sameach!" ("Happy Spring holiday!").

Earlier, Izvestia reported on the traditions of the Jewish holiday of Purim.
