A criminal case on negligence was opened after an air pistol shooting at a college in Novy Urengoy. This was announced on April 8 at the headquarters of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District).
"On this fact, the investigation department for Novy Urengoy of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Yamalo—Nenets Autonomous District has opened a criminal case on the grounds of crimes under Article 293 of the Criminal Code ("Negligence") and Article 238 of the Criminal Code ("Performing services that do not meet safety requirements")," the report says.
In connection with the incident, the mayor of Novy Urengoy, Anton Kolodin, instructed to check metal detectors in educational institutions. The mayor recalled on Telegram that on April 7, an 11-year-old student carried a folding knife into one of the city's schools, stabbed a security guard in the neck, and the next day a student opened fire at the city college, there were no casualties.
"In connection with the two incidents that occurred in our educational institutions the day before and today, I demand an immediate and tough reaction from all regulatory services," he wrote.
In addition, Kolodin instructed to hold talks with all students about the inadmissibility of violence and the importance of treating each other with respect, and to organize parent-teacher conferences.
A shooting at a college in Yamal was reported earlier that day. As the source of Izvestia clarified, the incident occurred at recess, when the students decided to check the operation of the weapon, there was no conflict.
