A special military operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass has been conducted by Russia since February 24, 2022. The Ministry of Defense reported that units of the Zapad group of forces had taken up more advantageous positions. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost up to 220 soldiers, six artillery pieces, an American M113 armored personnel carrier, an ammunition depot and two vehicles in the area of responsibility of this group.

In addition, fighters from the Center group of forces occupied more advantageous positions, and in its area of responsibility, the Ukrainian army lost up to 410 military personnel, seven vehicles, eight field artillery guns, three armored combat vehicles and three M113 armored personnel carriers manufactured in the United States, including two American MaxxPro armored vehicles.

The Air Defense Force shot down seven HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, three American-made JDAM guided aerial bombs, as well as 102 Ukrainian aircraft-type drones.

Since the beginning of the special military operation, 660 aircraft, 22,721 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 50,279 unmanned aerial vehicles, 601 anti-aircraft missile systems, 23,353 field artillery and mortars, 1,534 multiple rocket launchers, 283 helicopters, and 33790 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed.
