- The Hungarian Foreign Minister noted the failure of the EU's sanctions policy against Russia

The European Union's (EU) sanctions policy against Russia has failed. This was announced on April 8 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"In general, I believe that the EU's sanctions policy has failed. <...> Because the sanctions have hit the European economy harder than the Russian economy," Szijjarto said.
He also added that Hungary has important cooperation with Russia in the energy sector, as the country depends on Russian sources. According to him, Russia is a reliable partner when it comes to energy supplies to Hungary.
"No one has made us a more reliable and cheaper offer than Russia, so it is obvious that we keep in touch with them, cooperate honestly with them in the energy sector, and we cannot refuse this in the current conditions," the Hungarian Foreign Minister said.
In addition, Szijjarto noted that the decision to support new sanctions against Russia will depend on the geopolitical circumstances in the world.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said on April 3 that the Russian economy is developing and growing despite the sanctions imposed on the country. Dmitriev also stressed that Russia is not currently making any explicit demands for the lifting of sanctions from the country.
Earlier, on March 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian entrepreneurs had successfully adapted to the Western sanctions mechanisms by creating alternative ways of interacting with foreign partners. The Head of state called the restrictions an additional catalyst for positive changes in the Russian economy.
