Exports of Russian fish products in 2024 amounted to 1.9 million tons. This was announced on April 8 by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at an expanded meeting of the Board of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.

"Our fish has been and remains an important component in the structure of agricultural exports. Last year, we shipped 1.9 million tons of fish products abroad (1.91)," Patrushev said.

According to him, today Russian fish is sold in more than 90 countries around the world, which confirms Russia's status as a world leader in the supply of frozen fish.

"The industry will have to further increase the volume of catch of aquatic biological resources. Systematic study and subsequent development of new water areas should be continued, including in zones of foreign states and convention areas of the World Ocean," Patrushev said.

In addition, he said that by the end of last year, the extraction of aquatic biological resources in Russia exceeded 4.9 million tons. In this volume, there is a significant increase in such mass species as pollock and herring. Particularly noteworthy was the catch of Iwasi sardines, which reached a record 580,000 tons, the highest figure in the entire post—Soviet history.

Successes in our own production also made it possible to fully supply the domestic market, with an indicator of self-sufficiency exceeding 138%, Patrushev added.

"The industry's turnover grew by 7% last year and amounted to 1.1 trillion rubles. Wages in the fishing industry are twice as high as the average salary in the economy," he said.

One of the key events, Patrushev continued, in the framework of scientific activity was the launch of a Large African expedition. Russian scientists, together with the crews of two scientific vessels, are conducting research in the waters of five African states. The Russian government has allocated 2.2 billion rubles for the implementation of this large-scale project.

On March 11, the Fish Union told Izvestia that Russia could increase fish exports to China in 2025. This forecast occurred against the background of China's introduction of import duties of 10% on fish and seafood from the United States.

Patrushev said in August last year that the catch from Russian fishermen in 2024 was slightly lower than last year, but it was sufficient for the domestic market and for exports. According to him, self-sufficiency in fish products in Russia exceeds the indicators of the Food Security Doctrine and remains at a level of more than 160%.
