The People's Republic of China (PRC) supports Russia's efforts in organizing a trilateral meeting with Iran at the expert level to resolve issues within the framework of the Iranian nuclear deal. This was announced on April 8 by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a briefing.

"We support Russia's holding of these trilateral consultations at the expert level and its efforts to promote a political and diplomatic settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

The official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry clarified that Beijing intends to make additional efforts in the issue of a diplomatic settlement.

The trilateral consultations, which are taking place on April 7-8, were announced yesterday by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Bagai.

On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced a direct dialogue with representatives of the Islamic Republic on the nuclear issue. He also clarified that on Saturday, April 12, a large meeting "almost at the highest level" will be held between Washington and Tehran.

The main negotiators at the US-Iranian meeting in Oman will be Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff. According to the agency NourNews, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi will also take part in the negotiations.
