The government did not support the increase in CTP payment limits

The government of the Russian Federation did not support the bill, which proposed to increase the limit of insurance payments for CTP. His review presents the position of the Central Bank, according to which this measure will require an increase in basic insurance rates by 10% for all car owners, which will endanger the solvency of insurers and reduce the availability of CTP, Kommersant reports.

The bill was drafted in January by a group of LDPR deputies. They proposed to increase the limit of insurance payments for CTP from 500 thousand to 650 thousand rubles in terms of compensation for damage to the life and health of victims and from 400 thousand to 520 thousand rubles in terms of compensation for damage to property.

As noted by Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, the current amounts of insurance compensation under the CTP contract have not changed for 10 years. However, over the past years, both insurance rates and the cost of spare parts, repairs, and medical services have increased significantly. The payment limits are no longer enough, the parliamentarian pointed out.

Later, the Ministry of Finance gave negative opinions on this initiative. They separately stressed that the introduction of compensation in the absence of CTP for the perpetrator of the accident will increase the burden on the reserves of insurance companies. This will lead to an increase in the cost of CTP for other citizens.
