On April 8, China's Ministry of Commerce promised to "fight to the end" against US President Donald Trump's tariffs.

"The US threat to increase tariffs on China is wrong and once again demonstrates the blackmail nature of the United States. China will never agree with this," Xinhua quoted the Ministry of Commerce as saying.

The representative of the ministry added that Washington's actions to impose duties against China represent a "typical practice of unilateral intimidation" that has no serious grounds. According to the agency, in the event of a tightening of policy by the United States, Beijing will be forced to take retaliatory measures to protect its rights and interests.

On April 7, Trump threatened to impose additional duties on goods from China in the amount of 50% from April 9, if China does not abandon retaliatory measures to American tariffs. Thus, the American leader reacted to the retaliatory tariffs imposed by China in the amount of 34%.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on the same day that the US abuse of duties was economic bullying, harming not only other countries, but also Washington itself. According to him, this seriously infringes on the legitimate rights and interests of other states, as well as violates the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
