Araqchi and Witkoff to represent Iran and the United States at talks in Oman

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will be the main negotiators at the US-Iranian meeting in Oman. This was reported on April 8 by the agency NourNews.
It is specified that Oman's Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi will also take part in the talks.
"According to the information received, Araqchi and Wittkof are senior negotiators between Tehran and Washington <...>," the statement said.
Araqchi said earlier that representatives of Iran and the United States will meet in Oman on Saturday for high-level indirect talks.
On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced that the American and Iranian sides were holding direct talks on the Iranian nuclear issue. In addition, the American leader clarified that on Saturday, April 12, a large meeting "almost at the highest level" will be held between the United States and Iran.
On April 2, it was reported that Trump had threatened Iran with "extinction by September" if the country did not agree to the nuclear deal and curtail its program. The American leader has already warned Tehran that failure to conclude an agreement would lead to bombing of the Islamic Republic. On the same day, it became known that the United States and Israel could strike Iran in order to allegedly eliminate the threat posed by its nuclear program. It is specified that the countries are preparing for a military operation against Tehran.
