On April 9, the Estonian parliament will consider a bill that will allow military personnel to destroy suspicious merchant vessels. This was announced on April 7 by the ERR broadcasting company.

"The goal is to give the right to the Naval Forces to prevent such frequent incidents as the deliberate cutting of sea cables by foreign merchant vessels and damage to other infrastructure facilities," the publication says.

It is specified that this measure will be applied only in cases of threat to human life or to prevent disasters. The crew of the suspected vessel will be evacuated before sinking.

The broadcaster also added that in case of a shortage of its own resources, Estonia is ready to cooperate with allies such as Finland, Sweden and Latvia to effectively respond to potential threats.

On April 7, it was reported that Lithuania and Estonia had not received financial support from the European Union (EU) to create a "drone wall" on their borders. It was planned to allocate about €12 million for this over the next three years.
