WP reported on Musk's personal request to Trump to cancel high duties

The head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), American businessman Elon Musk, personally appealed to American leader Donald Trump with a request to cancel high duties on goods from other countries. The Washington Post (WP) writes about this on April 7.
According to the publication, the dispute over import tariffs has become the largest disagreement between Musk and Trump, and the president's approach to duties may harm key manufacturing and consumer centers of the United States.
The newspaper pointed out that such a tariff decision would also harm Tesla, whose head is Elon Musk.
"Musk also disagrees with other members of the Trump coalition on issues such as visas for qualified immigrants and DOGE's approach to government spending," the WP publication says.
On April 2, Trump announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. On April 4, China imposed duties of 34% against the United States.
The next day, Georgy Ostapkovich, director of the HSE Center for Economic Research and Economic Analysis, noted that the introduction of US duties on imported goods could provoke a chain reaction that could lead to a global financial crisis.
