- Trump pointed to the lack of concessions offered by the EU in trade with the United States

The concessions offered by the European Union (EU) in the field of bilateral trade with the United States are not enough. This was announced on Monday, April 7, by US President Donald Trump.
"No, he is not," he replied to a question from a journalist during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
According to the American leader, the EU has been very tough for many years, and the purpose of its creation was to harm the United States and trade.
"The EU has been very tough over the years. I always say it was created to cause real damage to the United States and trade," Trump said.
The American president also said that the EU treats the United States "very badly" on trade issues and promised that this would not happen again.
"The European Union treats us very badly. They don't buy our cars like Japan does. They don't buy our agricultural products. They practically don't buy anything <...> But it won't be like that. Everything should be fair and mutual. It should be fair," he stressed.
Trump also added that by imposing additional duties, the United States will be able to pay off its foreign debt.
"Debt has become such a big factor in this country, and with duties and other things, we will start paying it off," the American president said.
On April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
The next day, Georgy Ostapkovich, director of the HSE Center for Economic Research and Economic Analysis, noted that the introduction of US duties on imported goods could provoke a chain reaction that could lead to a global financial crisis.
