Lithuania and Estonia have not received financial support from the European Union (EU) to create a "drone wall" on their borders. This was announced on April 7 by the Estonian broadcaster ERR.

"The border services of Estonia and Lithuania had previously applied for EU funding for a project on the use of drones, the purpose of which was to create a so—called drone wall on the border, but the project did not receive funding," the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania said in a statement, quoted by the portal of the broadcasting company.

It is specified that Estonia was the main applicant, and Lithuania acted as a partner of the project. The Lithuanian State Border Protection Service said that Brussels rejected the application in early March.

According to the material, the Estonian government was going to allocate about €12 million for the "drone wall" over the next three years. At the same time, additional financing was planned to be requested from various sources, including from EU funds.

On April 2, ERR announced that the Estonian government would begin building a line of fortifications on the border with Russia in the fall. It was clarified that at first it is planned to build a strongpoint of 14 bunkers in the northeast of the border strip and four bunkers in the southeast. At the same time, it was noted that the fortifications must withstand the impact of 152 mm ammunition. In total, it is planned to build up to 600 bunkers.
