Dad can: the comedy with Vdovichenkov and Tsyganov broke the bank

Unexpectedly for all market players, "Father 2. Grandfather" earned more than 550 million rubles at the end of the opening weekend (according to the EAIS) and is confidently moving towards a position in the top 5 highest-grossing films of the year in Russia. Against this background, the rest of the new items look pale: only one of them, the family painting "Death of a Unicorn", was able to earn more than 10 million rubles, the rest did not even get into the top ten in terms of fees.

"Father 2. Grandfather" became a super hit

The best start of the year, except for the New Year holidays, is "Batya 2. Grandfather", with his 543 million rubles, left far behind the previous holder of this title. "The Prophet", we recall, began its triumphal march to the cinema in February with 422 million rubles, now its total box office is 1,595 million rubles, of which 29 million were earned last weekend, the fifth place in the top.

If the weather conditions continue to drive viewers to the cinemas as intensively as before, then next weekend "Batya 2" can safely reach the billion mark, and even before the end of the weekend. It took the Prophet three weekends to do this.

At Bati, all the indicators are amazing. On Saturday and Sunday, the turnout was 40 people per session, and the total for the weekend was 31 people. For all the other top-10 participants, this figure was less than 15 viewers. Total viewers of "Bati" are already 1.3 million.

"It became clear immediately after the presentation on the film market that the sequel to Baty, the hit of 2021, would be successful," Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, told Izvestia. — But the result of the first weekend exceeded all expectations, the film has already collected more in one weekend than the first part for the entire rental. "Batya 2" strengthened its position with the appearance of Evgeny Tsyganov in the caste.

The expert notes that this story is an ideal fusion of comedy and drama, it also works on the feeling of nostalgia among viewers of all ages. At the same time, the cost of producing the painting was low: there are no graphics and special effects, so the project is also successful from a commercial point of view for its creators, Zinyakova recalls.

At the moment, "Batya 2" already ranks seventh among the highest-grossing films of the year at the Russian box office. Ahead of them are "The Wizard of the Emerald City", "Finist", "The Prophet", "Red Silk", "Christmas Trees 11" and "Kuzya the Housekeeper". By the weekend, "Dad" is already likely to be in fourth place, especially since some of the students are currently on vacation. A 12+ rating helps releases a lot in such cases.

"Baty 2 has a great sundress, and it will definitely enter the top 5 highest—grossing films of the year, meaning the final box office will be more than 1 billion," agrees Olga Zinyakova. — The biopic about the Zveri group "Everything that concerns you" is its indirect competitor. But, as practice shows, synergy in the film business gives the highest result.

Indeed, the film "Everything that Concerns You", which will be released on April 10, also has a rating of 12+. But here everything will depend on the size of the "Beasts" fan base, because it is up to them to decide the fate of the painting. And, perhaps, the release can be considered "family friendly" to a lesser extent precisely for this reason. "Batya" is a more versatile product, in addition, Evgeny Tsyganov's makeup brought unexpected additional advertising to the release, as it spread on social networks.

The last film directed by Ilya Uchitel, "The Flying Ship," collected a total of 1,124 million rubles. His previous painting "Streltsov" "total" reached only 356 million rubles. Thus, "Father 2" should become the most successful in the career of a young director.

"Master" collected nine times less than "Father 2"

In second place at the box office is the action movie with Jason Statham "The Master". This is his second weekend, and if after the first the box office was 112 million rubles, then by the second it fell to 62 million rubles, although the fighter had no direct competitors. On both weekends, the average number of viewers was around 15 people per session, on the second it was slightly lower, but not significantly.

The third place, 56 million, belongs to the dramedy "Palm 2". Considering that last weekend the figure was 133 million rubles, it can be assumed that the potential viewer of the film went to watch "Father", these are pictures of the same category, and the release from the fourth place, "Zhdun", is adjacent to them. He has 41 million rubles, which is also a drop from 90 million, that is, more than twice. That is, there are three family releases in the top 5 of the Russian box office. In fifth place, as mentioned above, is "The Prophet." New rental items, among which there were quite decent paintings, did not interest the general audience.

"The sympathies of the audience were unconditionally on the side of Bati 2," sums up Olga Zinyakova. — It has already been recognized as the most popular film: now the audience wants something sincere and warm. Although the other holders also got their own small piece of the pie. This time, the weather worked in favor of boxing. Thus, the April results should partially compensate for the drop in the first quarter. But there are still several major projects ahead.

The Russian film screening this weekend showed the highest attendance since the middle of February, when "The Prophet" was released. As then, the total number of viewers was 2.1 million people.
