The reluctance of most American politicians in the Republican Party to support Kiev financially is associated with high costs, Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the RAS Center for Security Studies and an American political scientist, explained to Izvestia on April 7.

"Among the Republicans who make decisions, [there is a reluctance to support Kiev] because it is expensive. <...> because there are other priorities. At least, the team of [US President Donald] Trump's main opponent is China. You don't have to waste time rolling up your sleeves, fighting and holding it back. And Ukraine is a black hole in which American investments, American investments and weapons are being lost. Therefore, of course, the majority of Republicans reflect the Trump agenda," the expert said.

According to him, currently, politicians are more interested in dealing with issues related to China and internal problems that concern the American economy.

Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal reported that, according to a survey, almost 80% of Republicans in the United States oppose providing financial assistance to Ukraine.

Prior to that, on March 7, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, in an interview with Kossuth Radio, said that the European Union could not afford to allocate funds for the military actions of the Ukrainian side without guaranteed financial assistance from the United States of America.
