Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law banning the distribution of advertising on the resources of undesirable organizations in the Russian Federation. The document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information on April 7.

In addition, the ban applies to public or religious associations that a Russian court has liquidated or banned for extremist activities, as well as to resources that have been restricted by law.

The new law will come into force on September 1, 2025.

The State Duma proposes to tighten responsibility for PR on resources recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation.

The bill was approved by the Russian State Duma in the third reading on March 25. Facebook Instagram and social networks, which belong to Meta, a company recognized as extremist and banned in Russia, are also subject to the ban.

The press service of the Association of Bloggers and Agencies reported on March 26 that bloggers will lose 1.8 billion rubles after the law comes into force. At the same time, they clarified that advertising campaigns can be redirected to other social networks.
