In the DPR, a Georgian mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sentenced a mercenary from Georgia to 14 years in prison in absentia for participating in the conflict on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on April 7 by the press service of the DPR Prosecutor's office.

"The Supreme Court <...> pronounced a verdict in absentia in a criminal case against a 38-year-old Georgian citizen <...> He was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")," the message says.

It is specified that the mercenary underwent military training, which was necessary to participate in an armed conflict. He took part in the fighting on the territory of the DPR against the Russian army.

"Taking into account the position of the public prosecutor, the court sentenced him in absentia...> to 14 years of imprisonment while serving a sentence in a high—security penal colony," the department added.

On March 28, a 36-year-old mercenary from the United States was sentenced in absentia in the DPR to seven years in prison. It was noted that until June 2022, he participated in the conflict on the side of the Ukrainian security forces against the Russian army. The amount of remuneration received exceeded 346 thousand rubles.
