AKORT ruled out a shortage of lemons amid the cessation of supplies from Turkey

The largest retail chains are not expecting a price increase due to the cessation of lemon shipments from Turkey. This was reported to Izvestia on April 7 by the Presidium of the Association of Retail Trade Companies (ACORT).
It is specified that federal retailers have formed a sufficient supply of lemons by strengthening international relations and cooperation with a wide pool of suppliers.
"The peak of purchases of Turkish lemons, as a rule, falls in the autumn-winter period. In the spring, supplies from this country decrease in favor of other importers. During this period, the supply of products from Argentina, South Africa, Morocco and other countries is growing," said Stanislav Bogdanov, Chairman of the ACORT Presidium.
According to him, supplies from other countries cover the shortfall in Turkish imports, which eliminates the acute shortage of lemons on the market.
In the afternoon, the Turkish Ministry of Trade announced the suspension of lemon exports from April 8. It was noted that the relevant decision was made in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry due to recent frosts in a number of regions of the state. Another explanation for the measure is to maintain a balance of supply and demand in the domestic market.
