Pavel-Philippe Hohenzollern, the grandson of former King Carol II of Romania, was detained in France at the request of the Romanian authorities on charges of corruption and money laundering. This was reported on April 7 by the BalkanInsight agency.
It is clarified that Hohenzollern was detained by police in Paris after fleeing Romania, where he is accused of corruption, money laundering and fraud with land previously owned by the royal family.
"As a result of international cooperation between the Romanian police and the French authorities, Pavel Rumanian was found in Paris. Currently, the procedural actions for his transfer to our country are continuing," said Romanian Interior Minister Lucian Bode.
According to the agency's journalists, the French authorities reported that Prince Pavel was found on the street, and when checking his identity, he presented a passport issued by the British authorities.
He is expected to appear in court in France soon and faces extradition to Romania.
Earlier, on March 15, Romanian criminal Vasil Rodideal was arrested in Moscow, he was wanted by the national Central Bureau of Interpol. The detainee is accused of serious crimes in his homeland and was hiding from the Romanian investigation, after which he was put on the wanted list by Interpol in 2012. It is specified that Rodidal lived in Russia under the name Vasily Kravtsov.
