- The SVR announced the plans of the Latvian authorities to massively destroy war memorials in the country

The Latvian authorities are working on plans for the mass destruction of war memorials on the territory of the country in order to overshadow the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory. This was reported on April 7 in the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation.
"It is planned to get rid of about a third of the monuments over the mass graves of Soviet soldiers-liberators as soon as possible. In order to give the act of vandalism the appearance of "civility", it is supposed to act "strictly within the framework of the Latvian legal framework," the SVR press service clarified.
The ministry explained that the Latvian authorities intend to conduct fictitious archaeological research, which should "refute" the presence of mass graves under the memorials. It is specified that it is planned to start with the Orthodox Tornyakalna and military Fraternal cemeteries located in Riga.
The SVR noted that Riga's behavior demonstrates a lack of honor, dignity and a sense of gratitude.
"Apparently, the Latvian authorities' caveman Russophobia and fear of Russia led them to a decision that defied common sense — to declare war on the fallen soldiers," the Foreign Intelligence Service stressed.
On March 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for a tough fight against the rewriting of history by the Baltic States, Poland and a number of other EU countries. He noted that in these countries, the criminals convicted by the Nuremberg Tribunal are being equalized with those who liberated Europe from fascism.
Sergei Naryshkin, director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, said on March 26 that EU countries are trying to rewrite the history of the twentieth century so that the younger generation believes that Russia was not the victor of Nazism in World War II. According to him, the EU states have adopted the propaganda techniques of the Third Reich to intimidate the European philistine with the alleged Russian "threat."
