- The media pointed to the threat to Ukrainian refugees in the EU after the end of the conflict

The legal status of Ukrainian refugees in the European Union (EU) may be in jeopardy due to the lack of a specific plan to allow them to stay after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by Euractiv on April 7.
They noted that in February 2022, the EU Temporary Protection Directive (TPD) began to operate, which allowed Ukrainians to live and work in European countries. However, due to the ongoing ceasefire negotiations, this initiative may be cancelled.
"A cease—fire can change the scenario overnight, and host countries will have to decide whether to scale back these protection measures, insist on integration, or push refugees to return home," the article says.
According to Jasmine Slutjes, deputy director of the European Institute for Migration Policy, some countries, without waiting for the decision of Brussels, are taking steps for a "longer-term permanent status" of refugees.
For example, Poland will offer a three-year temporary residence status to Ukrainians who have had continuous temporary protection for a year, while in the Czech Republic a special five-year residence permit will be available for those who have lived in the country for more than two years and have a job, Slutjes said.
Andreas Breitner, director of the Association of Housing Companies of Northern Germany (VNW), said on March 5 that Germany expects a new mass flow of Ukrainian refugees in connection with the decision of the administration of US President Donald Trump to stop military aid to Kiev. According to him, most of the refugees will come to the north of Germany, since the Ukrainian diaspora has already formed there in three years.
