- The Central Bank of the Russian Federation pointed to the growth of the international Mir card acceptance network

The international Mir card acceptance network continues to grow despite anti-Russian sanctions. This was announced on April 7 by the head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Elvira Nabiullina.
"Despite the sanctions, we are gradually expanding the acceptance of Mir cards in friendly countries where our tourists travel," she said, speaking at the Russian State Duma.
Nabiullina also stressed that the Central Bank of the Russian Federation is working with businesses to overcome the sanctions restriction.
On January 8, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali announced that the process by which Mir cardholders will be able to use them on the territory of the Islamic Republic is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2025. The first ATM accepting Russian Mir cards also started operating in Nicaragua last December.
On March 28, the Central Bank reported that the issue of the Mir payment system increased 1.4 times over the period 2024, and also reached more than 400 million cards. It was noted that the amount of purchases paid for with these cards exceeded 42 trillion rubles.
