The Chinese Foreign Ministry called the abuse of US duties economic bullying

The abuse of duties by the United States is an economic bullying that damages not only other countries, but also Washington itself. The corresponding statement was made on April 7 by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Lin Jian.
He clarified that the Chinese government has clearly outlined its position on the abuse of duties by the United States, and stressed that Washington has imposed tariffs against all trading partners. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, this seriously infringes on the legitimate rights and interests of other states, as well as violates the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO), undermines the multilateral trading system and violates global economic order and stability.
"The Chinese government strongly condemns and opposes such actions. The US position is a typical act of unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying that harms others and at the same time itself," Lin said.
On April 2, US President Donald Trump announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again. On April 4, China imposed duties of 34% against the United States.
Georgy Ostapkovich, director of the HSE Center for Economic Research and Economic Analysis, said on April 3 that the introduction of US duties on imported goods could trigger a chain reaction that could lead to a global financial crisis.
